Our exhibit is about the deeper meaning found in costumes and setting within both black and white films and Technicolor films. We have determined that both costumes and setting can interact to illustrate a character’s identity, as well as occasionally the actions that unfold during the films. When we watched these movies, we were struck by the relationship between costumes and the setting. The overarching themes within the films are essentially embodying the characters through the presentation of both costumes and the setting. While this may seem an obvious observation, most viewers either unconsciously take notice or write it off as unimportant in the grand scheme of the film. We concede that costume design is not popularly analyzed, which is why we have decided to delve deeper and explore the symbolism that it creates.
